Cecil "Sensi" Francis has over 40 years of experience playing the steelpan and was the Captain of Trinidad's Desperadoes Steel Orchestra. He has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Apollo Theater, and the Hammersmith Odeon in the UK. After migrating to the US, he toured with "Warrior Ant" to the Yale School of Drama and performed at various venues in Los Angeles. In 2008, he became the Steelband Director of the Austin Community Steelband, a non-profit professional steelband school committed to sharing the joys of steelpan with the citizens of Austin, regardless of age, gender, or cultural background. The school's goals include providing low-income and at-promise youth with free instruction, establishing a professional performing steel orchestra, and promoting cultural acceptance and tolerance.
