Transforming Lives Through Action

From Los Angeles to the Caribbean, CARICON creates pathways for cultural excellence, heritage preservation, and community resilience. Through our four-pillar approach—Literary Advocacy & Professional Development, Cultural Exchange & Education, Community Engagement & Cultural Celebration, and Community Resilience & Support—we ensure Caribbean voices are heard, heritage is preserved, and creative communities thrive even in times of crisis.

Our programs reach across borders: the CARICON Conference connects 300 authors and cultural practitioners with professional opportunities; Cross Currents brings Caribbean literature, music, and storytelling into 200+ classrooms; Heritage Remix preserves endangered oral histories and cultural practices; and the CARICON Resilience Fund supports creative communities through disasters. Together, we’re building a cultural ecosystem where every Caribbean voice has the opportunity to be heard and every tradition has the chance to thrive.

Frequently Ask Questions

CARICON is distinguished as BY Caribbean people, FOR Caribbean voices. We're the only organization promoting Caribbean literature, culture, and heritage across all four linguistic groups (English, Spanish, French, Dutch/Papiamento) while maintaining deep roots in both the Caribbean and diaspora communities. Our programs span the complete cultural ecosystem—from artist development through the CARICON Prize and Conference, to youth empowerment through educational exchange, to heritage preservation, to community resilience through disaster support.

We provide comprehensive support including: pitch sessions with literary agents and industry professionals at our annual conference; professional development workshops on craft, publishing, and cultural practice; networking with established creators; Writers Retreat and cultural residency experiences; translation and distribution opportunities; performance platforms like Poetry Slam and Soundclash; and visibility through the CARICON Prize. We've helped dozens secure publishing deals, festival invitations, and professional opportunities.

Our programs serve: Caribbean authors and artists (established and emerging), youth ages 10-25, educators, cultural practitioners, literary and arts professionals, diaspora communities, cultural organizations, and anyone passionate about Caribbean culture. Whether you're in Los Angeles, Trinidad, Martinique, or Curaçao, we have programs designed to connect you with Caribbean literary and cultural heritage.

Multiple ways to get involved: Monthly/annual donations supporting specific programs; conference and event sponsorships; volunteer opportunities; partnership development; attending events like Poetry Slam, Soundclash, and cultural performances; following our social media and spreading the word. Every contribution—whether financial, time, or talent—helps Caribbean voices and cultural traditions reach global audiences.
